More than forty years have passed since the Guerra Sucia — the Dirty War — the violent repression carried out in Argentina during the 1970s with the aim of eradicating every form of dissent and protest within the country’s cultural, social and academic circles. It led to what was officially called the Process of National Reorganisation, but for the people it was simply the era of the military dictatorship — of Videla, Galtieri, Viola, and Bignone.
More than forty years have passed, and still there is no trace of 30,000 people — kidnapped, disappeared, eliminated, erased. In a single word: Desaparecidos.
Yesterday, #24March, the people of Buenos Aires once again filled the streets — demanding the opening of state archives, marking a Day of Memory, continuing to believe in justice, and crying out for a truth that is still being kept hidden.
