Accanto alla Stazione Centrale, in uno degli enormi magazzini dismessi del vecchio porto asburgico vive un luogo di transito e stallo illegale, irregolare.
Dagli ex confini dei paesi orientali, gli immigrati in attesa di un visto che molto probabilmente non arriverà, trascorrono la loro esistenza sospesa nei muraglioni e nelle arcate di pietra di una città dentro un’altra città.
Trieste: l’antica capitale dell’orgogliosa e fiorente Mittel Europa, città portuale di antico mestiere sempre aperta all’atavico passaggio degli stranieri, perso ogni luccichio della borghesia marittima si trova adesso cieca e ottusa nell’affrontare una realtà che esiste ma che nessuno vuole vedere.
In Largo Santos, nella Città di cartone, tra l’indifferenza della popolazione autoctona che preferisce “non vedere” piuttosto che “aiutare“, un centinaio di uomini e ragazzi e nessuna donna, sopravvivono in una parvenza di quotidianità in baracche di cartone recuperato fuori dai grandi supermercati.
